Bridgeport Volleyball Closes Out 2022 CACC Regular Season Slate With A Four-Set Win At Chestnut Hill
Victory Guarantees The Purple Knights A Home CACC Championship Quarterfinal Match On November 7
Philadelphia, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team closed out its 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference regular season schedule on Saturday with a four-set road win over the host Griffins of Chestnut Hill College in the City of Brotherly Love, 27-25, 18-25, 25-19, 18-26. Saturday's victory coupled with Dominican University New York's loss at Georgian Court guarantees the Purple Knights second place in the CACC's North Division and gives UB a home conference championship quarterfinal match against the third place finisher in the South Division on Monday, November 7. With the win, Bridgeport is now 13-7 overall and 12-6 in the CACC. Chestnut Hill is now an even 13-13 overall and 9-6 in conference play.
Sophomore Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) led the Purple Knights' offense with 16 kills on Saturday, and she also chipped in eight digs.
Freshmen Marissa Mullins (Circleville, Ohio) and Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) each had 11 kills for the winners, and Mullins contributed eight blocks in the match (five solos); plus Tomiello hit .471 over the four sets and had six blocks.
UB setter Jaden Drollinger (So, Queens Creek, Ariz.) had a solid all-around day versus Chestnut Hill finishing with 36 assists, six digs, four blocks, three kills and two service aces.
Freshman libero Isabella Carmona-Bailey (McKinney, Tex.) led the Bridgeport backline on defense with a total of 16 digs.
Up next, the UB volleyball team is slated to close out its regular season schedule in Hubbell Gym next Sunday, November 6 at 12 noon when former East Coast Conference rival Daemen College pays a visit to the Park City.
