Bridgeport Volleyball Tops Alliance In Four Sets
UB Earns First Home Win Of 2022 And Moves To 4-3 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team won back-to-back matches for the first time this season and earned its first victory in three contests at home so far in 2022 with a four-set, 25-10, 25-21, 21-25, 26-24, triumph over a scrappy Alliance University team in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Thursday night. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 5-12 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Alliance slips to 1-14 overall and 0-6 in the CACC.
Sophomore Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) and freshman Marissa Mullins (Centerville, Ohio) led the Bridgeport offense on Thursday, as they each had 17 kills. Mullins finished the night with a sparkling .517 hitting percentage (17 k-2 e-29 ta).
Freshman Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) was just short of double-double in the UB win, as she finished the night with nine kills and team-high nine digs. She also had team-leading five service aces in the four sets. The Purple Knights did a fine job behind the service line against Alliance, as they finished with a single-match season high 17 service aces.
Sophomore setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) had 46 assists on the night for the winners.
Rayah Burge led Alliance with 10 kills in the match.
Up next, the UB volleyball team travels to Philadelphia for a cross-divisional CACC match on Saturday against the host Rams of Thomas Jefferson University. First serve is set for 12 noon in the City of Brotherly Love.
