Volleyball Team Comes Up Just Short In Non-Conference Road Clash Versus Franklin Pierce
Purple Knights Fall To The Ravens In Four Sets
Rindge, N.H.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team battled the host Ravens of Franklin Pierce University on four tight sets on Saturday afternoon in New Hampshire, but the Purple Knights fell to the hosts in non-conference action, 21-25, 20-25, 25-20, 23-25. With the loss, Bridgeport is now 2-10 on the 2022 season. FPU ups its overall season mark 4-5.
Sophomore Madison Jongsma (Sanford, Fla.) led four UB players on offense in double-digit kills on Saturday with a career-high 16, as she hit .406 in the four sets.
Jongsma was joined in double-figure kills by freshmen Marissa Mullins (Circleville, Ohio) and Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy), who each had 11 hammers, and sophomore Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) finished 10 kills for UB. Hernandez finished with a double-double on the day, as she chipped in 17 digs on defense.
Sophomore setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creeks, Az.) had a fine all-around match finishing with a double-double of 38 assists and a team-high 23 digs. Jaden also finished with eight kills and four service aces in the match.
Freshman libero Isabella Carmona-Bailey (McKinney, Tex.) had 21 digs in the four sets for the Purple Knights on defense.
Up next, the UB volleyball will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday night at local rival Southern Connecticut State University in another non-conference match. First serve in New Haven is set for 7:00 p.m.
