UB Volleyball Earns First Conference Win With Four-Set Road Victory Over Caldwell
Freshman Lucia Tomiello Leads UB With 20 Kills On The Night
Caldwell, N. J.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball squad got back in the win column on Tuesday night, as the Purple Knights a five-match losing skid with a four-set, 25-18, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20, conference road victory over the host Caldwell University Cougars. UB is now 2-8 overall and an even 1-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. Caldwell slips to 2-6 overall and is 1-2 in the CACC.
Three Purple Knights reached double-digit kills in Tuesday's win led by freshman Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy), who slammed a career-best 20 versus the Cougars. Tomiello also led the team with 16 digs to finish with a double-double.
Also finishing with double-digit kills for the winners were freshman Marissa Mullins (Circleville, Ohio), who had a career-high 18 kills, as she hit an impressive .586 on the night recording those 18 kills on 29 attempts with only one error, and sophomore Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) with 14 kills. Hernandez also had a double-double with 11 digs.
Sophomore setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) directed the Bridgeport offense to the tune of 45 assists, and she finished with her own double-double notching 13 digs on defense.
As a team, UB hit .254 on the evening.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team continues conference play on Thursday night at home in Hubbell Gym, when the Chargers of Dominican University New York come calling. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
