UB Volleyball Topped By Bloomfield In Four Sets To Open 2022 Home And Conference Slates
Purple Knights Take Set One, 26-24, But Visitors Rally To Win The Next Three Stanzas
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team opened its 2022 home and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on Wednesday night in Hubbell Gym with a four-set loss to the visiting Bloomfield College Bears. UB won a see-saw first set that had 12 ties and four lead changes, 26-24, but the visitors came back to take the next three stanzas, 25-23, 25-16 and 25-15. Bridgeport is now 1-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Bloomfield moves to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
Errors plagued the Purple Knights in the match, as UB hit only .057 on the night with 32 hitting errors, plus the team had a total of 13 service errors.
The Bears played a strong match at the net registering a team total of 16 blocks in the four sets.
Sophomore Paola Hernandez (Bayamon, P.R.) and freshman Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) led the Bridgeport offense, as they notched 10 kills.
Freshman Marissa Mullins (Circleville, Ohio) had eight kills and four blocks (two solos) on the night for the hosts.
Sophomore setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) had 31 assists in the match, and freshman Isabella Carmona-Bailey (McKinney, Tex.) led the Bridgeport defense with 11 digs.
Bloomfield's Desiree Cruz led all players in the match with 11 kills.
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team travels to Springfield, Massachusetts for the ultra-competitive International Volleyball Hall of Fame Clash hosted by American International College on Friday and Saturday. The Purple Knights will face host AIC and Molloy on Friday, and Daemen and Bentley on Saturday.
