Volleyball Struggles In Regular Season Finale At NYIT
Team Must Now Wait And See If It Qualifies For 2017 ECC Championship Tournament
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The visiting University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team fell in its 2017 regular season finale at NYIT on Wednesday evening, as the Purple Knights dropped an East Coast Conference match to the host Bears, 17-25, 13-25, 1e-25. UB is now 12-15 overall and 8-6 in conference play. NYIT moves to 23-7 overall and 10-4 in the ECC.
With the loss, the Purple Knights also must wait and see if their 2017 season will continue in next weekend's East Coast Conference Championship Tournament. For Bridgeport to earn a spot in the ECC Championship, the team needs the Daemen College Wildcats to loss one of their two matches this weekend at Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday or at Molloy College on Sunday.
The UB offense struggled all night hitting only .062 for the match. Sophomores Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) and Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the Purple Knights with six kills apiece. Hennemann also chipped in eight digs for Bridgeport.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had 11 assists on the evening, and freshman Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) led the team on defense with nine digs.
