Volleyball Sees Four-Match Winning Streak Stopped At Home By NYIT In Four Sets
Purple Knights Now 4-2 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team saw its four-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night, as the host Purple Knights fell in an East Coast Conference match to the visiting NYIT Bears in four sets, 20-25, 28-26, 18-25, 15-25. With the loss, the Purple Knights are now 8-9 overall and 4-2 in conference play. NYIT raises its overall mark to 15-5, and the Bears are also now 4-2 in the ECC
Sophomores Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) and Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) led the UB offense on Wednesday, as they each registered 16 kills. Senior Bruna Santos (Curitiba, Brazil) also had double-digit kills with 13 on the night, and she finished with a double-double notching 10 digs.
Junior setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the UB offense with 44 assists, and she also had digs on the evening.
Freshman libero Olivia Storaci (Longmont, Colo.) recorded a team-leading 18 digs in the four sets, and classmate Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) also had double-figure digs with 15.
The Purple Knights were plagued with 15 service errors in the loss, and NYIT also had a total of 10 service aces.
The UB women's volleyball team is right back in action tomorrow night when the team travels to Long Island to take on the LIU Post Pioneers in conference play. Frist serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
