Purple Knights Move To 6-0 In ECC Volleyball Play With Home Sweep Over Dowling
UB Now 13-7 Overall And Bridgeport Has Won 10 Of Its Last 11 Outings
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team picked up a big East Coast Conference win and remain unbeaten in conference action with a 25-28, 25-17, 25-17 home sweep over the visiting Dowling College Golden Lions on Tuesday night. Bridgeport is now 13-7 overall and remains unbeaten in the ECC at 6-0. The Purple Knights have also won 10 of their last 11 matches. The Golden Lions are now 14-5 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed a balanced UB offensive attack that hit .302 as a team in the win with a total of 37 assists. Rich also helped the team with eight digs and two block assists plus one kill.
Junior Katarina Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) led Bridgeport with 13 kills, as she finished the night with an impressive .458 attack percentage, and Katarina finished with a double-double, as she added 11 digs.
Senior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) and junior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) each chipped in nine kills for the winners.
Senior Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) and junior Frida Randen (Sodertalje, Sweden) each had six kills for UB. Randen also added a match-high four service aces.
Junior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) lead all players on defense with 15 digs on the night.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's volleyball team will close out the first half of East Coast Conference play with a trip to Western New York State where the Purple Knights will face Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday night and Daemen College on Saturday morning.
