UB Volleyball Opens 2015 Home Schedule By Handing NYIT Its First Loss Of 2015
Purple Knights Noe 2-0 In The ECC And 5-6 Overall
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team opened its 2015 home schedule in fine style on Thursday night in Hubbell Gym posting a four-set (25-22, 16-25, 25-20, 25-13) win over previously unbeaten NYIT in an East Coast Conference match. UB is now 5-6 overall and 2-0 in the ECC. The Bears are now 8-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Junior Katarina Krstonosic (Kikinda, Serbia) led UB with 17 kills and 20 digs. On the night, Katarina had an impressive .371 attack percentage, plus she added five assists and two blocks.
Senior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) amassed 13 kills and fell just shy of her own double-double adding nine digs.
Also on offense for the Purple Knights who hit .296 as a team in Thursday's victory, Frida Randen (Jr., Sodertalje, Sweden) chipped in eight kills, senior Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) had six kills and freshman Kira Shapiro (Fr., Omaha, Nebraska) added five kills.
On defense, Randen and Zhao, each had four blocks and Shapiro had three blocks on the night.
Freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had a strong match dishing out 46 assits with six digs and four kills.
Karolina Moderova led NYIT with 15 kills.
The UB women's volleyball team is right back in action on Friday, as they travel to Southern New Hampshire University for a non-conference match slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
