Purple Knights Move To 8-0 In ECC Volleyball Standings With Home Sweep Of Queens (N.Y.)
Senior Amanda Kunrath Leads UB Offense With 11 Kills
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team got back in the win column on Thursday evening, as the Purple Knights swept a home East Coast Conference match from the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights, 25-14, 25-17, 25-14. With the win, UB is now 13-2 overall, and the Purple Knights finish the first round of conference play with a perfect 8-0 mark. QC slips to 7-8 overall and 3-5 in the ECC.
Senior Amanda Kunrath (Ivoti, Brazil) led the Bridgeport offense with 11 kills and an impressive .733 attack percentage, as she amassed those 11 kills on 15 attacks with no errors. Kunrath also added two blocks on the night.
Classmate Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) hit .500 on the evening with eight kills on 16 attacks with no errors. Oliveira led UB in blocks with three (one solo).
Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) and senior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) each had six kills for Bridgeport. Rosa chipped in eight digs, and Shen had four digs for the Purple Knights.
Biljana Savic (Grad. Student, Novi Sad, Serbia) netted six kills for the winners, and she led the team with 19 assists, and contributed seven digs, two service aces and two blocks.
As a team, UB hit .358 on the night (42 k-8 e-95 ta).
Up next, the UB women's volleyball team will begin the second round of ECC action at Dowling College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
