Bridgeport, Conn. – The top-seeded and host University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team defeated the eighth seeded Georgian Court University Lions in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II East Regional Volleyball Championship Thursday night, in straight sets, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18 to advance to the regional semifinals for the sixth straight season. With the victory Bridgeport improves to 22-2 on the year, and Georgian Court finishes 2013 at 20-13. UB has now won 16 matches in a row
The Purple Knights played convincingly as the top seed by never trailing in the first and third sets and overcoming an 18-13 deficit to win the second set 25-23, en route to the 3-0 sweep. Bridgeport's Sarah Rosa (So., Itajuba, Brazil) led the offense with a game-high 14 kills and a .545 attack percentage. Classmate Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) added nine kills (.391 attack percentage) and 13 digs.

Biljana Savic (Jr., Novi Sad, Serbia) had a team high 17 assists and added seven kills while senior setter Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) chipped in with 15 assists. UB sophomore libero Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) finished with a game-high 13 digs.
Tatiana Villariny-Rodriguez (Rio Grande, PR) recorded nine kills and five digs for the Lions. Jaslene Lopez (Coamo, PR) had a game-high 28 assists on the night.
The Purple Knights will play in the second semifinal match on December 6, at 7:30 pm versus the University of New Haven who came back from being down two sets to zero to defeat Adelphi in the final match of the day.
