Biljana Savic Records A Triple-Double As Volleyball Grabs Win Number Seven In A Row With Sweep Of AIC
Purple Knights Now 13-2 On The Year-UB Returns To Action At Home On Sunday Afternoon Versus Roberts Wesleyan
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team had a Happy Halloween, as the Purple Knights quickly chased away any ghosts or goblins in Hubbell Gym with a convincing 3-0 (25-22, 25-9, 25-10) non-conference victory over the visiting American International College Yellow Jackets. UB is now 13-2 overall having won seven straight matches and 11 of their last 12 outings. With the loss, AIC slips to 11-13 overall.
Junior Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) had a rare triple-double for the winners, as she had 16 assists, recorded 11 digs and crushed 10 kills with an attack percentage of .412. Savic also added three service aces and two block assists.
Junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) had a double-double with a team-best 11 kills and match-high 14 digs.
Sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) fell just shy of double-digit kills with nine, as she amassed an impressive .529 attack percentage.
Junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had an attack percentage of .600 on the night with seven kills on 10 attacks with only one error, and classmate Jade Zhao (Huhhot, China) chipped in five kills on six attacks with no errors for a .833 attack percentage. Jade also had four blocks (one solo).
As a team, Bridgeport banged out a .456 attack percentage (45 kills-9 errors-79 total attacks).
The UB women's volleyball team is next in action on Sunday afternoon, November 3 when they return to East Coast Conference action as they close out their three-match homestand with a 1:00 p.m. tilt against Roberts Wesleyan College.
