Purple Knights Make Quick Work Of Mercy College With 3-0 ECC Volleyball Victory
Team Has Now Won Three Matches In A Row And Seven Of Their Last Eight Outings
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team picked up its third win a row and seventh victory on its last eight outings with an East Coast Conference home sweep of the Mercy College Mavericks on Friday night. UB won the match, 25-13, 25-19, 25-17. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the ECC. Mercy falls to 8-11 overall and 1-7 in conference action.
Sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led Bridgeport with 13 kills in the victory. Rosa was joined in double-digit kills by junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) who notched 11. Both Rosa and Oliveira each only had one attack error on the night, as the Purple Knights finished the evening with an impressive .429 team attack percentage. Larissa also chipped in four block assists for the winners.
Junior Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) just missed a double-double with a team-high 10 digs and eight kills.
Classmate Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) was once again a solid all-around performer for UB with nine kills, a team-best 20 assists and eight digs.
Senior setter Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) had 19 assists and added five digs for Bridgeport.
The Purple Knights are back in action on Tuesday night when they close out a three-match homestand with a non-conference contest versus Stonehill College. Action is slated to get underway in Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m.
