Biljana Savic And Sabrina Simas Earn 2012 Women's Volleyball Capital One Academic All-District ® Honors
Duo That Has Helped The Purple Knights To The Top Of The ECC Standings Now Moves Onto National Ballot
Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport women's volleyball players Biljana Savic and Sabrina Simas have been selected to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District ® teams as chosen by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America) for their outstanding performances in the classroom and on the court. Both student-athletes were named to the NCAA Division II District One Capital One Women's Volleyball Academic All-District ® team and now move to the national Academic All-America ballots.
Savic, a sophomore from Novi Sad, Serbia, is an International Business major at UB with a 3.91 grade point average. Last season, Biljana was named an AVCA Freshman All-American, and this year, she leads the Purple Knights in kills per set at 3.73.
Simas, a senior from Blumenau, Brazil, is a Psychology major at Bridgeport with a 3.90 grade point average. Last season, Sabrina was selected to the All-NCAA East Regional team as UB won its first-ever NCAA Division II Regional title, and this year, she has one of the team's highest attack percentages at .305, plus she is averaging 0.65 blocks per set.
To be nominated for a Capital One Academic All-District Team, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). In baseball and softball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. Athletes who have not participated in at least 50 percent of their team's contests are not eligible. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the cases of transfers, graduate students and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible. Nominees in graduate school must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better both as an undergrad and in grad school.
