Volleyball Picks Up Its Third Straight Victory With Road Sweep Of UMass Lowell

Lowell, Mass.-Sophomore Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) had a team-high 12 kills plus four service aces, and classmate Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) added 11 kills with five digs and four block assists to help the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball post its third straight victory and raise its season record to 5-1 with a 25-14, 25-18, 25-15, three-set sweep over the host UMass Lowell River Hawks on Saturday afternoon. UML is now 3-3 in 2012.
As a team, Bridgeport finished the match with a .382 attack percentage and dominated the net with 11 total blocks led by senior Sabrina Simas (Blumenau, Brazil) who had six block assists.
Sophomore setter Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) directed the UB offense to the tune of 24 assists and she also added four blocks (one solo), three digs and one service ace.
Senior libero Taylor McBeth (Langley, B.C., Canada) led the Purple Knights' defense from the back row with a match-high 13 digs.
Next up for the Bridgeport volleyball team is the squad's 2012 East Coast Conference opener at Dowling College on Tuesday night. Action gets underway on Long Island at 7:00 p.m
