UB Volleyball Moves On To NCAA East Regional Semifinals With 3-0 Sweep Of NYIT
Purple Knights Make Fourth Straight NCAA Regional Semis Appearance
West Haven, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball East Regional being hosted by the University of New Haven on Thursday afternoon with a straight sets win over the NYIT Bears, 25-14, 25-19, 26-24. With the victory, Bridgeport continues its season with a 29-7 record, and the Bears end 2011 with a 19-9 mark.
Freshmen Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) and Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazi) led the UB offense with 14 and 12 kills respectively. Oliveira hit an impressive .732 for the match and also added five block assists.
As a team, Bridgeport hit .389; while NYIT hit .189 on the day.
UB setter Tamara Leite (Sr., Natal, Brazil) had 30 assists and added six digs on the day for the winners.
Senor Fernanda Costa (Rio deaneiro, Brazil) led the Purple Knights with eight digs,
UB advances to the regional semifinals at 5:00 p.m. on Friday night where they will face a familiar foe in fellow ECC memeber Dowling College.
