Dowling Tops Purple Knights, 3-0, In ECC Volleyball Championship Final
UB Awaits Word On Fourth Straight NCAA Bid On Sunday Night
Oakdale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team fell just short in its quest for 2011 East Coast Conference title on Saturday evening as the Purple Knight lost in three tight sets to the host Dowling College Golden Lions in the ECC Championship Final, 25-20, 25-20, 27-25. Dowling reaches an automatic bid to next week's NCAA Division II Championship with the victory, and the Purple Knights will await word on a t-large bid which will be announced at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. Dowling is now 27-4 overall, and UB is 18-7 overall.
Freshman Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) led UB with 18 kills, and she also had nine digs.
Junior Taylor McBeth (Langley, BC, Canada) led the Bridgeport defense with 14 digs, as did freshman Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) at the net with seven blocks (three solos).
Senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) dished out a game-high 37 assists on the night.
