Biljana Savic Leads UB With 16 Kills
Bridgeport, Conn.-Freshman Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) led three Bridgeport players in double-figure kills with 16 and had a double-double with 13 digs, as the Purple Knights post a four-set, 25-11, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17 home East Coast Conference win over the Mercy College Mavericks on Tuesday night. The victory lift UB's overall record 14-4, and the team is now 7-2 in ECC play. Mercy drops to 8-20 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
Joining Savic in double-figure kills were senior Fernanda Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) with 14 and freshman Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) with 11,
Junior Taylor McBeth (Langley, BC, Canada) led all players on the night with 19 digs, and she played an excellent all-around match with five kills and four block assists.
Senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) directed the UB offense to the tune of 47 assists for the winners.
Bridgeport is right back in action on Wednesday night as the team travels to Washington, D.C. for a match-up with ECC newcomer, the University of the District of Columbia. Action gets underway at UDC at 7:00 p.m.
