Dowling Takes Straight Set Win To Grab Automatic NCAA Bid: Purple Knights Await At-Large Bid To NCAA's Which Will Be Announced At 10:00 p.m. on Sunday,
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team was defeated by the Dowling College Golden Lions in straight sets in the East Coast Conference Championship Final played at New York Tech on Saturday evening. Dowling defeated Bridgeport, 25-15, 25-23, 25-17. With the win, the Golden Lions raise their season record 27-1, and they receive the ECC's automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division II Championship Tournament while will begin on Thursday. UB is now 23-4, and the Purple Knights will await word on an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament which will be announced at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night. With a bid this year, Bridgeport will be making its third consecutive trip to the NCAA's.
Graduate student Agatha Bakiddawa-Mukisa (Jinja, Uganda) led the Purple Knights and all players on the night in kills with 11 in the ECC Final. She also had four blocks (two solos) to lead the team. Senior Terry Masava (Nairobi, Kenya) had nine kills on Saturday.
