Purple Knights Shine In Field Events At The Vassar College Invitational
UB's Javelin Squad Especially Strong On The Day
Poughkeepsie, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had several strong performances in multiple field events on Friday at the Vassar College Invitational.
In the women's javelin, freshman Larissa Weber (Purgstall, Austria) took first place with a toss of 35.50m (116-05) and classmate Emilia Russell (Kingston, U.K.) grabbed second place with a distance of 34.17m (112-01).
In the men's javelin, Luke Downes (Soph., Johnson City, Tenn.) fired the spear a distance of 45.60m (149-07) to take second place.
Emilia Russell took second place in the women's shot put with a distance of 9.86m (32-04.25), and freshman Janae Scott (Pennsbury, Pa.) put the shot 9.70m (31-10.00) to finish in fourth place.
Along with her strong finish in the shot put, Scott took third in the women's discus with a toss of 33.71m (110-09) and was fifth in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 26.51m (86-11).
Freshman Maxim Kruk (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored points for the Purple Knights in the men's shot put and hammer throw, as he finished seventh in the shot put with a distance of 10.22m (33-06.50) and slotted fourth in the hammer throw with a launch of 35.04m (114-11).
In the men's pole vault, freshman Joshua Karyea (Nazareth, Pa.) cleared 3.35m (10-11.75) to take fifth place.
Junior Faith Hershberger (Ephrata, Pa.) wrapped up the UB point scorers at Vassar, as she finished sixth in the women's triple jump with a leap of 10.03m (32-11.00).
As a team, the Bridgeport women tallied 44 points to take fifth place, and the UB men scored a total of 20 points to finish in sixth place.
It will be a short night for the Purple Knights, as they are right back in action on Saturday, April 8 at the Springfield College Classic in Massachusetts.
