Purple Knights Compete At William Sutherland Invitational Hosted By SCSU
Teams In Action At Bucknell Bison Invitational Next Weekend
New Haven, Conn.-For the second straight week, the University of Bridgeport men's and women's indoor track and field teams were in action at a meet hosted by Southern Connecticut State in the Owls' Moore Fieldhouse, as the Purple Knights competed in Sunday's William Sutherland Invitational.
Highlighting the day for UB was Luke Downes (Soph., Warren, Ohio) taking first place in the men's 400m race in a time of 53.01.
Also on the men's side, freshman Cristian Ellis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had another strong day in the sprints finishing second in the 55m in a swift time of 6.68, and he also took fifth in the 200m in a time of 23.68.
In the men's weight throw, Maxim Kruk (Fr. Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) took seventh place with a toss of 11.51m (37-09.25), a personal best.
On the track for the UB women, junior Alexandra Toth (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished sixth in the mile in a time of 6:26.14.
In women's field events, freshman Emilia Russell (Kingston, U.K.) took fifth in the shot put with a distance of 9.96m (32-08.25), and junior Faith Hershberger (Ephrata, Pa.) took seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 9.97m (32-08.50).
Up next, the UB indoor track and field teams will travel to Pennsylvania to compete in the Bucknell Bison Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
