Swimmers Wrap Up 2017 Portion Of This Year's Schedule At ECAC Winter Championship Meet
Purple Knights Grab Four First Place Finishes Over The Weekend
East Meadow, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport swim teams wrapped of the 2017 calendar year portion of this season's schedule by competing at this weekend's ECAC Winter Championships on Long Island. The event took place from Friday through Sunday. The UB men finished in fourth place out of the 13 team, and the Bridgeport women took thirteenth out of seventeen teams.
The Purple Knights won four individual events over the weekend, as senior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) won the women's 1650 Yard Free in a time of 17:08.13 and took first in the women's 500 Yard Free in a meet record time of 4:57.38, plus freshman Kosta Mitrovic (Belgrade, Serbia) took the top spot in the men's 100 Yard Breaststroke (56.50) and in the 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:02.80).
Bonsanti also took seventh place in the women's 200 Yard Butterfly and the tenth spot in the 400 Yard IM to wrap up another fine competition.
More quality performances on the women's side were turned in by junior Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) who finished second in the 100 Yard Free (51.50) and the 50 Yard Free (23.72), plus senior Rebeka Repman (Sombor, Serbia) took sixth in the 200 Yard Free (1:53.75).
On the men's side, sophomore Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia) had a fine weekend finishing in second place in both the 1650 Yard Free (15:44.13) and the 400 Yard IM (4:03.41) plus a third place finish in the 200 Yard IM (1:54.20) and fifth place in the 100 Yard Free (46.60).
Junior Klavio Meca (Triana, Albania) had a strong meet taking second place in the 500 Yard Free (4:33.01) and the 200 Yard Free (1:42.03) plus fourth place in the 1650 Yard Free (16:08.91).
Junior Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) grabbed second place in the 100 Yard Backstroke (49.71) and finished seventh in the 100 Yard Free (47.15), plus classmate Nick Semenov (Kiev, Ukraine) took fourth place in the 100 Yard Free (46.51) and sixth in the 200 Yard IM (1:55.55).
Freshman Jose Javato (Caceres, Spain) finished fourth in the 400 Yard IM (4:07.54) and fifth in the 200 Yard Free (1:43.21), plus junior Nicolas Cardenas (Bogota, Columbia) took sixth place in the 200 Yard Butterfly (1:56.84).
Both teams will return to meet action in the New Year when they travel to Iona College on January 12th.
