Oksana Marchuk Earns Second All-American Honor In As Many Days At 2017 NCAA Swimming Nationals
First-Year Purple Knight Takes Second In Women's 200 Free
Birmingham, Ala.-For the second straight day, University of Bridgeport first-year swimmer Oksana Marchuk (Mlyniv, Ukraine) earned All-American honors on Thursday evening, as she took second place in the women's 200 Freestyle after finishing fourth in Wednesday's 200 IM. Marchuck finished second in a time of 1:46.91 just one tenth of a second behind first place Emma Wahlstrom of Nova Southeastern. The 2017 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships are taking place at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama as part of the 2017 NCAA Division II Winter Sports Festival.
Junior Annagrazia Bonsanti (Caracas, Venezuela) finished in 20th place in the women's 200 Free in a time of 1:51.27.
Marchuk was also part of the UB women's 200 Free Relay team along with Nina Stegu, Yekaterina Gakhokidze and Rebeka Repman that brought home Honorable Mention All-American accolades with a fifteenth place finish in a time of 1:34.43.
Freshman Erik Hren (Maribor, Slovenia) took tenth place in the 200 Free to highlight the UB men's performances on Thursday to grab Honorable All-American honors in a time of 1:38.05. Teammate Ivan Sangines (Sr., Barcelona, Spain) finished in 26th place in the same event in a time of 1:40.32.
The Bridgeport men's 200 Free Relay team took 23rd place at Nationals on Thursday in a time of 1:24.27.
As a team, the Bridgeport women sit in fifteenth place out of 32 scoring teams after Day Two of the 2017 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championship Meet with 50 points, and the UB men are in 21st place out of 30 scoring teams with 25 points.
Action will continue through Saturday night at the 2017 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships.
