Bridgeport Swim Teams Sweep St. Rose
Women Pick Up 118-93 Victory And Men Win 116-71
Troy, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport swimming teams traveled to the Capital District of New York State on Friday night, and the Purple Knights swept the host College of St. Rose Golden Knights. The UB women topped St. Rose, 118-93, and the Bridgeport men picked up a 116-71 victory.
The Purple Knights' women's squad won eight of eleven swimming events with junior Rebeka Repman (Sombor, Serbia) and sophomore Nina Stegu (Ljublijana, Slovenia) each winning two events. Stegu took first in 50 Free (24.84) and the 100 Butterfly (1:01.28), and Repman capturing the 200 Free (1:55.32) and the 100 Free (54.95).
The Bridgeport men had the top times in all eleven events on Friday night with senior Didac Matsuyama (Barcelona, Spain) and sophomore Wilmar Du Plessis (Bloemfontein, South Africa) finishing the meet as double event winners. Matsuyama grabbed top honors in the 200 IM (2:01.45) and the 500 Free (4:47.05), and Du Plessis won the 100 Back (52.91) and the 50 Free (21.96).
The UB swimming teams are right back in the water tomorrow afternoon at home when Bridgeport hosts a double-dual meet with Fairfield and Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.). Action is slated to begin at the Wheeler Recreation Center Natatorium at 1:30 p.m.
