UB Swim Teams Fall In Winter Break Dual Meet At Nova Southeastern

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport swim teams got back into competition on Thursday afternoon in a dual meet versus Nova Southeastern University which is part of the Purple Knights' Winter Break Training Trip. The host Sharks swept Thursday's action winning the women's meet, 140-63, and capturing the men's side of things, 122-83.
For the UB women, junior Tatiana Shepel (Moscow, Russia) was the team's lone first place finisher winning the 100-yard Freestyle in an NCAA "B" cut time of 51.82.
Four Bridgeport male swimmers took first place under the Florida sun, as Ruben Gimenez (Sr., Burgos, Spain) won the 50-yard Freestyle (21.21), Ivan Capan (Jr., Zagreb, Serbia) won the 200-yard IM (1:54.32), Antonio Nunez (So., Oviedo, Spain) won the 200-yard Butterfly (1:53.72) and junior Ivan Sangines (Barcelona, Spain) captured the 500-yard Freestyle (4:39.89).
Up next for the Purple Knights' swim teams will be a return to chilly Connecticut for the start of the Spring Semester and the teams' lone home meet of the 2014-15 season in the Wheeler Recreation Center Natatorium at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24. That afternoon will also be Senior Day for the teams, as the UB men will face Keene State, and the women will also take on Keene State along with Assumption.
