UB Women Set Seven Pool Records In Dual Meet At Assumption
UB Back In Action For 2013-14 Home Opener Versus St. Rose Next Saturday
Worcester, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport women's swimming team wrapped a busy opening weekend of the 2013-14 season by traveling to Worcester, Massachusetts for a dual meet with Assumption College Greyhounds. Although only seven UB swimmers were able to compete on Saturday, the Purple Knights left their mark breaking seven pool records at the Plourde Recreation Center.
First-year transfer Adeline Martin continued to impress, being a part of four pool records on the day, while picking up her second NCAA B Standard in the 400-yard IM (4:31.74), as well as setting the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:09.97) record on the first 100 on her way to winning the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:24.02). Martin joined fellow Purple Knights sophomore Jaimy Lee Taskin, junior Mona Hagelstein and sophomore Elena Shchekleina in setting the 400-yard Medley Relay (4:00.47) record. Taskin led off the relay in 100-yard Backstroke (1:1:00.76) record time, and then followed up with a 200-yard Backstroke (2:11.20) record later in the meet. Hagelstein picked up the final pool mark of the in the 100-yard Butterfly (1:00.96).
Assumption's depth proved to be too much for UB on Saturday as they posted a 161 - 89 win over the Purple Kinghts.
The Bridgeport women's and men's swimming teams next will take on Northeast-10 conference power the College of St. Rose in their 2013-14 home opener at UB's Wheeler Recreation Center next Saturday, November 2 at 1:00 p.m.
