Swim Team Complete Day Two Of College of Wooster Invitational
Women In Third Place Men In Sixth Place Heading In Final Day Of Action In Ohio
Wooster, Ohio-The University of Bridgeport women's team stands in third place in the team standings, and the UB men are in sixth place after day two of the three-day College of Wooster Invitational.
The UB women have 724.5 points, and they trail first place Edinboro University (897 points) and second place Gannon University (762.5 points).
Individual winners for Bridgeport on Friday were freshman Sonia Arau (Barcelona, Spain) who took first place in the Women's 400-yard IM in a time of 4:26.09 (NCAA "B" Qualifying Time), junior Anna Kwiatkowska (Warsaw, Poland) who captured the Women's 200-yard Free in a time of 1:55.49 (NCAA "B" Qualifying Time), and on the men's side, senior Piotr Safronczyk (Bialystok, Poland) won the 100-yard Breaststroke in a time of 56.66 (NCAA "B" Qualifying Time).
The Purple Knights also won two relay events on Friday taking first place in the Men's 200-yard Medley Relay (Nik Savic, Safronczyk, Toni Valcic and Deon Taylor) in a time of 1:34.60, and the Women's 800-yard Free Relay (Arau, Karen Barboza, Sandra Schmitz and Maris Visse) in a time of 7:51.89.
Additionally on Friday, Bridgeport swimmers turned in a total of six NCAA "B" qualifying times. On the women's side NCAA "B" qualifying times were turned in by junior Maris Visse (Tallinn, Estonia) in the 400-yard IM (4:38.42), junior Anna Kwiatkowska (Warsaw, Poland) in the 100-yard Butterfly (58.53), senior Roxana Purcelea (Constanta, Romania) in the 200-yard Free (1:56.02), freshman Karen Barboza (Chula Vista, CA) in the 100-yard Backstroke (59.28) and freshman Sonia Arau (Barcelona, Spain) with a time of 1:55.67 on the 200-yard Free Relay lead off leg. For the UB men, senior Nik Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) turned in an NCAA "B" qualifying time in the 50-yard Free at 21:24.
Action wraps up on Saturday in the 2010 College of Wooster Invitational.
