Purple Knights Seeded Seventh in 2023 NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Championship East Regional
Women’s Soccer head into the NCAA DII Regionals as the number seven seed on Friday afternoon.
Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team is heading the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament for the 13th time in program history and third consecutive year. The Purple Knights received an automatic bid after winning the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament this past weekend and go into the Regionals with a 10-7-3 overall record.
UB's first round opponent will be the number two seed and number 14 nationally ranked Adelphi University after the Panthers finished runner up in the Northeast 10 Tournament Final and accrued a 12-3-4 overall record. That match will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17th in Garden City, N.Y. on Adelphi's Motamed Field. Joining Bridgeport at Adelphi will be the number three seed Jefferson University (13-3-3) as they play the six seeded Molloy University (11-4-5) at 10:00 a.m. at Adelphi. The winner of those two Friday matches will play each other on Sunday, November 19th at 1:00 p.m. at Adelphi.
Bridgeport have made their 13 NCAA trips in the last 16 years and has amasses a 16-8-4 record in the competition. UB fell out of the tournament last year, in the East Regional Semifinals after losing in penalties to Franklin Pierce University.
No stranger to the NCAA Tournament, in 2018, Bridgeport captured the NCAA Division II National Championship with a 1-0 win over Grand Valley State University on December 1 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Purple Knights went 6-0-0 in the NCAA Championship on their way to the 2018 national crown defeating Stonehill (2-1), St. Rose (3-0) and LIU Post (1-0) to take the East Regional title, and then topping Bloomsburg, 3-1, to advance to the national semifinals where the team blanked UC San Diego, 2-0.
The Purple Knights also advanced to the National Championship Semifinals in 2015 in Pensacola, Florida where they fell 3-1 to Columbus (Ga,) State University.
UB women's soccer program has appeared in the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021 and 2022 prior to this year's endeavor.
The Purple Knights enter the first round having scored 13 goals and allowing just one in their CACC Tournament title run last week.
The other side of the East Region bracket will be hosted by top seeded and number one nationally ranked College of Saint Rose (19-0-1). They will play the winner of number four seed Roberts Wesleyan (10-2-2) and number five seed Southern New Hampshire University (9-4-5) who battle at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17th. The winners will face Saint Rose on Sunday to advance to the following week's East Regional Final.

1:00 p.m.-Adelphi/Bridgeport winner vs. Jefferson/Molloy winner
Tickets will be available each day at Motamed Field. Daily admission will be $10 for adults, $5 for children (12 and under) and senior citizens (65+), and $3 for college students (with valid institutional ID). Per NCAA policy, no complimentary admission will be permitted.
