Albany, N.Y. – The University of Bridgeport women’s soccer team fell to the No. 4 team in the nation: College of Saint Rose Golden Knights 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. The non-conference loss drops UB’s season record to 6-5-3 overall.
UB would have their work cut out for them up against undefeated Saint Rose. Fresh off a 6-0 win and with today being their Senior Day, the Golden Knights would not be short of energy. Saint Rose would outshoot UB 19-11 and shown greater efficiency with 13 shots on target to the Purple Knights’ four.
This Saint Rose efficiency shown early, with only 16 seconds played, as Ashley Kieblesz got on the end of a ball played towards the back post and slotted in to take the 1-0 early lead.
Saint Rose’s Mia Klammer found herself about 25 yards from goal with space to shoot in the 17th minute where she hit the ball beyond the outstretched hand of Fr. goalkeeper Antia Lopez (Galicia, Spain).
One minute later, Sydney Myers was able to beat the UB keeper to a through ball, taking a touch wide and slotting the ball into the net to make the score 3-0 in Saint Rose’s favor.
Bridgeport was able to tighten things up defensively, limiting the Golden Knight chances for 50 minutes. Until in the 69th minute, a corner kick from the boot of Elina Seppala was miss cleared by the UB defense and deflected into their own goal.
Junior Angelina LoFranco (Greenacres, Fla.) led the UB attack with four shots, two of which testing the Golden Knights keeper.
Antia Lopez registered nine saves of the 13 shots faced in the defensive effort.
Up next, the UB women’s soccer team will be back in action away from home on Wednesday, October 25th at 3:00 p.m. as they head off to Caldwell, N.J. to challenge the Caldwell University Cougars for a CACC clash.
