UB Will Now Face # 5 Holy Family On Saturday At 4 PM
Bridgeport, Conn.-Four different players scored goals on Monday afternoon, as the top-seeded University of Bridgeport women's soccer team came back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the number-eight seed Dominican University New York Chargers, 4-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Quarterfinal match played at Knights Field. With the win, UB is now 12-3-4 overall and unbeaten in its last 15 matches (11 wins and four draws). Dominican finishes its 2022 season with a 7-8-2 overall record.
The Changers scored first on Monday when Kaitlyn Zeeb rocketed home goal number 13 of the season from just outside the box off an assist for Alissa Madura just 15:10 into play.
The Purple Knights would tie the match at 1-1 just over 13 minutes later when junior Vivien Ruettgers (Munich, Germany) put home her own rocket to the back off for her fourth goal of 2022 off an assist from sophomore Kate Thill (Goetzingen, Luxembourg).
UB sophomore Amiah Washington (Clifton, N.J.) scored what proved to be the match-winning goal giving her team a lead, which they never relinquished; just over two minutes later, when she headed home a corner kick at the back post from classmate Angelina LoFranco (Greenacres, Fla.) for her second score of the year.
Leading 2-1 heading into the second half, the Purple Knights put the game away in the second stanza with goals from Kate Thill, her fifteenth of the season in the 53rd minute, and junior Samantha St. Pierre (Granby, Conn.) found the back of the net for goal number seven of the year off another lovely ball from LoFranco in the 76th minute. Junior Leigh-Ann Ramsay (Bronx, N.Y.) assisted on Thill's tally.
UB outshot Dominican, 16-6, on the day, and finished with a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Sophomore goalkeeper Clara Karlsson (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) made two saves for the winners on Monday to keep her season record unblemished at 12-0-4 so far in 2022.
