Women's Soccer Battles Franklin Pierce To A 1-1 Draw In Match Featuring Two Of The East Region's Best Squads
UB Will Now Take On Dominican University New York On Monday To Open Postseason Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-Two of the top-ranked teams in the East Region of NCAA Division II women's soccer met at Knights Field on Wednesday night, and the contest did not disappoint as the University of Bridgeport, ranked number five in the region, battled the top-ranked in region and number 15 in the country, Ravens of Franklin Pierce University to 1-1 draw in the 2022 regular season finale for both teams. With the tie the Purple Knights extend their unbeaten streak to 14 matches (10 wins and four draws) and are 11-3-4 heading into the postseason. The Ravens are now 13-2-2.
After a scoreless first half, junior Leigh-Ann Ramsay (Bronx, N.Y.) got Bridgeport on the board first when she volleyed home a cross from classmate Samantha St. Pierre (Granby, Conn.) at the 63:43 mark of action. Ramsay now has nine goals so far in 2022.
Franklin Pierce would come back to tie the match just over seven minutes later on a goal by Aino Martikainen, and that would be all the scoring on the night.
The match was extremely even on offense, as FOU finished with a 14-13 edge in shots, and UB took one more corner finished with a 7-6 edge.
Bridgeport sophomore goalkeeper Clara Karlssson (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) made four saves between the posts for the Purple Knights to raise her season record to 11-0-4.
Emile Fox made three saves for the Ravens on the evening.
Up next, the top-seed UB women's soccer team will open play in the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament versus the number eight seed Chargers of Dominican University New York on Monday, October 31 at 1:00 p.m. at Knights Field.
