Purple Knights Stay Unbeaten In CACC Women's Soccer Play With A 2-2 Home Draw With Caldwell
Leigh-Ann Ramsay Nets Both UB Goals On Tuesday Night
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team stayed unbeaten in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at 4-0-1 with a 2-2 home draw against the visiting Caldwell University Cougars at Knights Field on Tuesday night. The deadlock also keeps the Purple Knights unbeaten in their last six matches overall with four wins and two ties, as UB see its overall record move to 5-3-2. Caldwell is now 2-5-3 overall and 1-2-2 in the CACC.
The Cougars got on the board quickly on Tuesday netting the first goal of the match just 2:15 into play.
The game stayed 1-0 in favor of the visitors until just before halftime, when Bridgeport junior Leigh-Ann Ramsay (Bronx, N.Y.) scored her first off two goals in the match off an assist from classmate Tori Smith (Jr., Bridgewater, Mass.) in the 42nd minute to level things at 1-1.
Ramsay would them give her team a 2-1 lead just under six minutes into the second half when she scored her fourth goal of the season with a beautiful shot just inside the goal post from distance.
Caldwell tied the game with under three minutes to play when Sarah Costanza flicked home a goal off a free kick that which taken from just outside the UB 18-yard box.
Bridgeport dominated the match on offense except on the scoreboard, as the Purple Knights outshot the Cougars, 19-4, on the night and finished with a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Caldwell goalkeeper Erin Emery made 10 saves on the night, and UB keeper Clara Karlsson (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) made two stops on the night to mover her season record to 5-0-2.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team travels to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon for a big conference matchup against the Thomas Jefferson University Rams who are currently 5-0-0 in the CACC. Kickoff in the City of Brother Love is set for 12 noon.
