Bridgeport, Conn.-Six different players scored goals on Saturday afternoon led by sophomore Kate Thill's (Goetzingen, Luxembourg) hat trick, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team cruised to an 8-0 home and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opening win over the visiting Chestnut Hill College Griffins at Knights Field on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 2-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play. Chestnut Hill is now 1-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the CACC.
UB simply dominated play all afternoon, as they outshot the visitors, 27-2, and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Along with Thill's three goals, five other Purple Knights, Vivien Ruettgers (Jr., Munich, Germany), Angelina LoFranco (So., Greenacres, Fla.), Tori Smith (Jr., Bridgewater, Mass.), Sage Yuen (Soph., Braintree, Mass.) and junior Zahra Ouannass (Quincy, Mass.), found the back of the net versus the Griffins.
Junior Leigh-Ann Ramsay (Bronx, N.Y.), senior Carly Zajac (Stratford, Conn.) and freshman Elizabeth Pitts (Raymond, N.H.) registered assists for the winners on Saturday.
In goal for the Purple Knights, sophomore Clara Karlsson (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) earned her eighth career clean sheet.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team opens up a busy week of play with a conference match at Alliance University (formerly Nyack College) on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Secaucus, New Jersey.
