Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team played its first draw of the 2021 season on Saturday afternoon at home, as the visiting Daemen College Wildcats come back for a 2-0 deficit with a pair of second half goals to tie the Purple Knights in East Coast Conference play, 2-2, in double overtime. With the deadlock, Bridgeport is now 6-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the ECC. The Wildcats are now 6-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in conference play.
UB got on the board quickly on Saturday, as junior Leigh-Ann Ramsey (Bronx, N.Y.) headed home her second goal of the season off a beautiful cross from freshman Kate Thill (Goetzingen, Luxembourg) just 8:14 into play.
UB would strike again just 37 seconds into the second half when junior Evelyn Hammer (Littleton, Colo.) netted her team-leading fourth goal of the year on a breakaway off a feed from freshman Angelina LoFranco (Greenacres, Fla.).
Unfortunately for Bridgeport fans, Daemen stayed the course in the contest and scored in the 54th and 80th minutes to send the match into extra time where neither team could tally to break the tie and give the fans in the stands a winner.
Bridgeport outshot the Wildcats, 20-11, on the afternoon, but Daemen keeper Tori Delappi made eight saves. UB freshman goalie Clara Karlsson (Umea, Sweden) made three saves in the match.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will host St. Thomas Aquinas College next Saturday for a 12 noon Homecoming contest.
