Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team evened its 2021 season record at 5-5-0 and picked up its second win in a row with an impressive 2-0 home, non-conference triumph over the visiting Holy Family University Tigers on Wednesday night, who came into the contest regionally-ranked by the United Soccer Coaches and on a six-match winning streak and a seven-match unbeaten string. With the loss, the Tigers are now 6-2-1 on the season.
Bridgeport made two first half goals stand up for the victory, as sophomore Evelyn Hammer (Littleton, Colo.) netted her second goal of the season to open the scoring at the 14:40 mark of play off an assist from graduate student Andrea Basilicato (Guilford, Conn.) after a beautiful steal from the Tigers' defense, and freshman Kate Thill (Goetzingen, Luxemburg) also netted her second tally of 2021 off an assist from Hammer just under three minutes later.
Freshman goalkeeper Clara Karlsson (Umea, Sweden) posted her second clean sheet of the year making saves in net for the winners.
Alyana McSeed had a total of four saves for Holy Family.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's soccer team will head to Western New York on Saturday for an important East Coast Conference game against the Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks. Kickoff in Rochester is slated for 1:00 p.m.
