Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team took to the field for the first time since November 14, 2019, as the Purple Knights opened the 2021 season by hosting the visiting Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University in the UB Women's Soccer Classic on Friday night, and SNHU snapped a 1-1 halftime tie with a goal just 52 seconds into the second half and held on for a 2-1 win.
Southern New Hampshire opened the scoring at the 18:40 mark of play, but UB rebounded to tie the match at 1-1 when newcomer Leigh-Ann Ramsey (Jr., Bronx, N.Y.) netted her first tally in a Purple Knights' uniform, when she put home a beautiful through ball from freshman Kate Thill (Goetzingen, Luxemburg) at the 32:38 mark.
SNHU outshot UB, 14-8, on the evening, and also held a 10-0 advantage in corners.
UB freshman goalkeeper Clara Karlsson (Umea, Sweden) made several quality saves in her debut in the Park City, as she totaled eight stops. Z Kaplan made two saves to notch the win for SNHU.
The Purple Knights will wrap up play in the 2021 UB Women's Soccer Classic on Sunday, when UB hosts Southern Connecticut State at 5:00 p.m.
