Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team raced out to 4-0 halftime lead and went on to shutout the visiting Daemen College Wildcats, 5-0, in an East Coast Conference contest played on Homecoming Saturday at UB. With the win, Bridgeport, now unbeaten in four straight outings, raises its season record to 6-3-1, and its conference mark to 4-1-0. Daemen slips to 5-6-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the ECC.
After opening the scoring on an own goal by the visitors just two minutes into play, the Purple Knights would then get goals in the opening half from juniors Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) and Nara DaCosta (Pancas, Brazil) plus freshman Anisha Hill (Woking, England).
DaCosta would then net her second goal of the afternoon and team-leading ninth of the season in the second half to make the final tally 5-0 in favor of the hosts.
Senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made two saves to record her third clean sheet of 2018.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team continues a busy stretch of action on Monday afternoon at Wilmington (Del.) University. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. on Columbus Day.
