Bridgeport, Conn.-Sophomore Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) scored the only goal of the match off an assist from freshman Sara Berglund (Borlange, Sweden) 20:15 into play on Saturday night, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team punch its ticket to the 2017 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament with a hard-fought 1-0 win over the nation's number five ranked team, the LIU Post Pioneers. With the win, UB claims the fourth and final spot in the 2017 ECC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, and the Purple Knights will now face a rematch with the top-seeded Pioneers on Wednesday afternoon on Long Island. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. With the win, Bridgeport is now 8-7-2 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play. LIUP is now 14-2-1 overall and 7-1-0 in the ECC.
Doyle's game-winning score is her team-best twelfth of the season, and her sixth game-winner of 2017.
Bridgeport junior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made three saves to notch her fifth clean sheet of the year. The Purple Knights' defense led by freshman Amanda Ebbesson (Solna, Sweden) limited the high-powered Pioneers' offense to only 10 shots on the night.
