Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team scored three goals in a span of 4:50 in the second half to snap a 0-0 tie and remain unbeaten in East Coast Conference play, as the Purple Knights defeated the host St. Thomas Aquinas Lady Spartans, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Purple Knights are now 4-4-2 overall so far in 2017 and 2-0-1 in conference action. STAC slips to 2-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the ECC.
Freshman Abigail Befford (E. Brookfield, Mass.) scored the first goal of the match off an assist from classmate Amanda Ebbesson (Solna, Sweden) at the 62:03 mark of play.
UB would quickly add two more goals in short order, as senior Ariana Weingrad (Hicksville, N.Y.) netted an unassisted tally followed by Ebbesson adding a goal to give her three points on the day off an assist from senior Nicole Greenwald (Levittown, N.Y).
Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made three saves to record her fourth clean sheet of 2017.
