Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team came out victorious against the pesky Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Knights Field, and the 3-1 win gives UB head coach Magnus Nilerud career victory number 250. He now boasts an impressive 250-106-22 record in his 19 seasons as the Purple Knights' bench boss. Bridgeport is now 3-4-2 overall. The Wildcats fall to 5-4-1 overall with the loss.
Wilmington netted the first goal of the match early in the first half when Rebecca Dolhansky scored off an assist from Alexa Smalley at the 2:14 mark. The goal would be one of only two shots on net for the Wildcats in the contest.
The host Purple Knights came back to tie the game at the 28:55 mark when freshman midfielder Sara Berglund (Borlange, Sweden) converted a turnover into her second goal of the year.
The Purple Knights would continue to pepper Wilmington with shots in the second half until finally sophomore Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) finished on two of her own at the 75:37 and 86:00 marks. Freshman Amanda Ebbesson (Solna, Sweeden) and senior Ariana Weingrad (Hicksville, NY) assisted on the two goals.
Sophomore Anneliese Jennings (Warminster, Pa.) picked up the win in net for Bridgeport making one save.
Bridgeport outshot the Wildcats by a wide margin of 24-3.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team returns to East Coast Conference play with a Saturday road match-up against the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans. Kick-off is set for 12 noon.
