Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team opened its 2017 home schedule in fine style on Wednesday evening at Knights Field with a 2-0 blanking of visiting Southern Connecticut State University. UB is now 1-2 on the season, and SCSU slips to 0-3 so far in 2017.
Sophomore Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) scored both goals on the night for the winners putting a penalty kick in the first half and finding the back of the net off a scramble in front of the net in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made five saves to record her first clean sheet of the season.
The Purple Knights outshot the owls 20-11 in the contest and finished with a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will travel to the State of California for a pair of matches playing at Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon and San Francisco State on Monday afternoon.
