Newark, Del.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up its fourth victory in a row with s 3-0 non-conference win over the host Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats on Thursday afternoon. With the triumph, the Purple Knights are now 7-3-0 overall, and with the loss, the Wildcats slip to 6-5-0 in 2016.
Graduate student Idoia Agirre (Legazpi, Spain) netted all three UB goals on the day to give her a team-high, nine goals so far this season. Idoia found the back of the net twice in the first half at the 24:13 and 25:42 marks, and she completed her hat trick just 3:31 into the second half. Senior Hanne Neby (Furnes, Norway) had an assist on Agirre's second goal.
UB outshot Wilmington (Del.), 15-5, on the afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeepers Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) and Melanie Ziegner (Münster, Germany) split time in the Bridgeport goal to share the clean sheet. Wendelius picked up the win, as she played the first 45:00 minutes of the match.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team wraps up a brief, two-match road trip when they return to East Coast Conference play at NYIT on Saturday, October 8. Match time is set for 12 noon on Long Island.
