Purple Knights Open 2016 Conference Schedule With Weather-Shortened 2-0 Win At LIU Post

Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team opened its 2016 East Coast Conference schedule with a 2-0 road victory against the host LIU Post Pioneers on Wednesday afternoon on Long Island.  The match was called with 14:41 remaining in the second half due to inclement weather, but was past the 70 minute mark which makes a soccer match official.

UB is now 3-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.  LIUP is now 2-2-1 overall and 0-1 in the ECC.

Bridgeport opened the scoring just 10:45 into play when graduate student Idoia Agirre (Legazpi, Spain) netted for second goal of the season when she picked up a loose ball in front of the Pioneers' net and beat goalkeeper Hillevi Eklow.

Just over 10 minutes later, Agirre assisted on her team's second goal of the contest which was fired home by senior Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.), who now has three goals so far in 2016.

Purple Knights' goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made three saves on the day to notch her second shutout of the year.

Up next, the UB women's soccer team, celebrating the thirtieth anniversary season of the program, will open its 2016 home schedule on Monday, September 19 when the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University come to Knights Field.  Action is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
