Two Goals By Jess Laszlo Propel UB Women's Soccer To NCAA Semifinals With 2-0 Win Over East Stroudsburg
Purple Knights Head To Pensacola, Florida Where They Will Face Columbus State In National Semifinals On December 3rd
Bridgeport, Conn.-A pair of second half goals by freshman Jess Laszlo (Stamford, Conn.) helped lift the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championship Semifinals in Pensacola, Florida on December 3 with 2-0 over the visiting East Stroudsburg University Warriors on Sunday afternoon in the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals. The Purple Knights, who will be making their first-ever appearance in the National Semifinals for women's soccer are now 21-1-1 overall. ESU closes out its season at 14-7-2. UB will face Columbus State of Georgia, a 2-0 winner on Sunday over Barry, in the national semifinals.
After a scoreless first half in which the Purple Knights outshot the Warriors, 5-0, Laszlo scored the first goal of the match, her 21st of the season, at the 55:37 mark of action when she took a beautiful through ball from Flo Gamby (Sr., Goffs Oaks, England) and beat ESU goalkeeper Jules Harris on a breakaway.
Laszlo would give her team an insurance goal with just over 10 minutes to play (79:44) when she put home a rebound off a shot from sophomore Carolina Rico (N. Bergen, N.J.) after Harris, who made six saves on the afternoon, made a stellar diving stop.
Bridgeport freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) notched solo shutout number 12 of the year in Sunday's win.
