10 Wins In A Row For Women's Soccer As Purple Knights Blank Molloy On The Road, 2-0
UB Now 15-1-0 Overall And 7-0- In The ECC
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up its tenth consecutive win, and the Purple Knights remained unbeaten in East Coast Conference play at 7-0-0, with a 2-0 road victory over the host Molloy College Lions on Saturday afternoon on Long Island. UB is now 15-1-0 overall, as the Purple Knights were ranked number five in the nation by the NSCAA last week. Molloy is now 6-6-2 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Junior Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.) netted her first goal of the 2015 season to give the visitors a 1-0 lead just 16:10 in action when she finished a beautiful passing play from senior Flo Gamby (Goffs Oaks, England) and junior Hanne Neby (Furnes, Norway).
Neby would give Bridgeport some insurance with just under 14 minutes to play in the match when she found the back of the net for the fifth time this season off another assist from Gamby to increase the Purple Knights' advantage to 2-0.
UB freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made five saves to notch her seventh solo shutout of the year. As team, Bridgeport has won 12 of its 15 matches by virtue of a clean sheet.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will continue its four-match road swing to close out the regular season at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York on Friday evening. Match time is set for 5:00 p.m., and the Purple Knights will be looking to clinch the top seed in the 2015 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament with a favorable result versus the Redhawks.
