UB Women's Soccer Picks Up Sixth Straight Victory With 4-1 Home Win Over Georgian Court
Purple Knights Now 11-1-0 Overall, As Freshman Jess Laszlo Scores A Hat Trick On Monday Night
Bridgeport, Conn.-Freshman Jess Laszlo (Stamford, Conn.) scored a hat trick to raise her team-leading goal total to 10, and junior Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) netted the Purple Knights' other tally, as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up its sixth straight win on Monday night, a 4-1 non-conference triumph over the visiting Georgian Court University Lions. UB is now 11-1-0 overall. Monday's loss is only GCU's second of 2015, as the Lions are now 10-2-1 overall.
Laszlo scored the first of her three goals at the 15:24 mark of action to give Bridgeport a 1-0 lead.
Moura would then head home a pass from junior Hanne Neby (Furnes, Norway) just over 15 minutes later to up UB's advantage to 2-0. Moura now has two goals on the season.
Laszlo would then close out the scoring in the first half when she put home here own rebound with a beautiful back heel just over four minutes shy of the halftime break.
Georgian Court would cut the Bridgeport lead to 3-1 with just under 20 minutes to play when Morgan Peacock headed home when second tally of the season.
Just 59 seconds later, Laszlo completed her hat trick, her second three goal performance in a match this season, when she put home a pass from freshman Catalina DelMoral (San Antonio, Texas) at the 71:14 mark.
Bridgeport freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) started the match for the Purple Knights and picked up her ninth win of the year mot allowing a goal and making one save in 61:40 of action.
Classmate Melanie Ziegner (Münster, Germany) finished up in net for UB making four saves and allowing one goal over the final 28:20.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team will continue a busy stretch of action on Wednesday afternoon, when the team plays its fourth match in six days at Nyack College. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. UB will then play its 2015 regular season home finale on Saturday afternoon, when the Purple Knights host NYIT at 3:00 p.m.
