Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team got second half goals from freshman Jess Laszlo (Stamford, Conn.) and senior Nicola Worthington (Cholley, England), as the Purple Knights picked up a 2-0 home non-conference win over the visiting Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats on Thursday night. Bridgeport is now 9-1-0 overall, and the team has won four matches in a row. Wilmington is now an even 5-5-0 for 2015.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes. Laszlo, who entered the action as a substitute to open the second half, found the back of the net off a pass from senior Gabby Reis (West Haven, Conn.), a little over 10 minutes into play in the second stanza. Jess now has a team-high six goals on the year, and three of those markers have been game winners.
Six minutes and forty seconds after UB took a 1-0 lead, Worthington ripped home her first goal of 2015 from near the top of the box off a nice back pass from junior Hanne Neby (Furnes, Norway).
The Purple Knights dominated play during the entire match, as they outshot the visitors by a 22-3 margin. Wilmington did not have a shot in the first half of action.
UB goalkeeper Melanie Ziegner (Munster, Germany) made two saves on the night to notch her second solo clean sheet of the season.
Up next, the Bridgeport women's soccer team returns to East Coast Conference on Saturday when they host the Golden Lions of Dowling College. Action is slated to begin at Knights Field at 12 noon.
