Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team exploded for four goals in a span pf 13:20 in the first half, as the Purple Knights cruised to a 5-0 road East Coast Conference win over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Wednesday afternoon in New York City. With the victory, UB is now 6-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the ECC. QC is now 3-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
UB netted four goals from the 12:33 to 25:53 marks of the first half to put the match away early, as senior Flo Gamby (Goffs Oak, England) and junior Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) each had one goal and freshman Jess Laszlo (Stamford, Conn.) scored twice to give the Purple Knights the 4-0 lead heading into halftime.
Laszlo would complete a hat trick with her third goal of the day in the 57th minute when she put home her own rebound off a penalty kick.
Freshman goalkeeper Melanie Ziegner (Münster, Germany) made her first collegiate start for UB on Wednesday and was credited with two saves, as she notched a clean sheet.
The Bridgeport women's soccer team will now take the weekend off before opening a five-match homestand with an important East Coast Confernce tussle versus Mercy College next Wednesday, September 30 at 6:00 p.m.
