Philadelphia, Pa.-Seeing the squad's first road action of the year, the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team remained undefeated on the 2015 season with a 1-0 victory over the host Philadelphia University Rams on Sunday afternoon in the City of Brotherly Love. UB is now 4-0-0 on the season, and the Rams are now 1-3-0. Sunday's contest was a rematch of a 2014 NCAA Championship Tournament First Round matchup, which the Purple Knights won 2-0.
Bridgeport outshot its hosts, 18-5, on the day, but the Purple Knights could find the back of the net only once when sophomore Carolina Rico (North Bergen, N.J.) scored just 5:13 into play off an assist from senior Gabby Reis (West Haven, Conn.).
UB goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made two saves on the afternoon to notch her third shutout in four matches so far in 2015. Courtney Shaw made six stops in net for Philadelphia U.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will continue will continue a four-match road trip with two tilts in the Lone Star State of Texas. The Purple Knights will open their Texas swing at Texas A&M International University in Laredo on Friday night before taking on St. Edward's University in Austin on Sunday afternoon.
