Purple Knights Rally With Two Late Goals To Pick Up 2-1 Women's Soccer Win Over Adelphi
Purple Knights Now 3-0-0 On The Season As Gabby Reis And Jess Laszlo Find The Back Of The Net
Bridgeport, Conn.-Trailing 1-0 for the majority of the match, the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team scored two goals in span of 1:40 during the final 10 minutes of action to take an exciting 2-1 home win over the visiting Adelphi University Panthers on Wednesday night at Knights Field. UB is now 3-0-0 on the young 2015 season. Adelphi slips to 1-2-0.
The Panthers opened the scoring on the night just 7:18 into play when Laura Gomez headed home a cross to give AU a 1-0 lead.
The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the visitors until UB senior Gabby Reis (West Haven, Conn.) rocketed home her first goal of the season with just 9:55 remaining in regulation to knot the match at 1-1 of a pair of quality passes from Nicole Greenwald (So., Levittown, N.Y.) and classmate Flo Gamby (Goffs Oaks, England).
The Purple Knights would score the game-winning goal just 1:40 later when freshman Jess Laszlo (Stamford, Conn.) netted her second goal of 2015 when she deposited a penalty kick into the back of the net after an Adelphi foul on Flo Gamby in the box.
On night, UB outshot the Panthers, 16-14.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Fr., Lidingo, Sweden) made three saves in the match to up her season record to 3-0-0. Anne Marie Ulliac made four stops for Adelphi.
Wednesday night's match wrapped up a season-opening homestand for the UB women who will next be in action on Sunday (Sept. 13) at Philadelphia University to open a four-match road trip that will include a voyage to Texas next weekend. Action gets underway in the City of Brotherly Love at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
